I am looking at DVD players and saw a HDMI upscaling one. Am I right that this would have no effect on a CRT TV?
(ie you would need to connect up a HDMI lead which a CRT TV doesn't have)

The upscaling will be through the HDMI.
It will work with a CRT TV if it also has a scart, composite, component, or s-vhs and the TV does too but sfaik there is no way to have a CRT TV show HD.0
