Acer Aspire One - Security needed?

My notebook is Linux - do I need any Security or anti-virus software?

I am a bit uneasy as I have none currently - I did check on a Linux website when I purchased the notebook and the feeling was that none was required.

Anybody had any bad experience??

nope Linux doesn't need antivirus software as there are only around 30 threats compared to the 1000's for windows.

I've run Linux boxes for years and never needed and AV software for them

I have run my AA1 on Linpus for almost 18 months with no problems. I could not believe that no security suite is needed, but apparently this is the case.

The only "Security", that's required, is generally the "no scripts" plugin for Firefox.
It stops any annoying scripts that might pose a security risk...

I've an Anti-virus, but it's only to check my Windows partitions, I boot the same machine to Linux and Windows (It's easier to fix Windows viruses in Linux).
