Poor thing has been lying around for a while now 'cos I was angry with him! He went funny and died a little during the Italy V Germany match:mad:

Anyway, when I plug it in, the standby light just flashed on and off and that's it, screen is still blank.

Any ideas anyone as to what could be causing this? It's a regular hunky TV that we have had for about 6 years now.

TIA!
I can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....

How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!

I thunk I've made you think for a minute!

Could be a number of things, it could be something small like the on/off switch thats faulty, or something severe like the transformer or capacitors.

My sisters TV died over Christmas and it turned out to be the on/off switch that had crumbled inside, still cost her £60 to get it fixed. The switch prolly cost 50p from maplins.

Its abit of a gamble not knowing what is wrong with it and most TV repair men will charge you just to take the cover off......then replacement parts and labour. This could be the same as buying a new tv from the supermarkets as they are quite cheap now.

That's what I'm worried about, calling someone out only to be told it'll cost the same to repair as it would to get a new one! We have a replacement (from our bedroom which is fine) but I just wanted to be sure if I should dispose of it or try and save him:D .

Wouldn't the on/off switch be fine if the standby light is responding? Just not like it should be though:o

If the standby light comes on for a split second then goes again the switch might be making a slight contact on full press but then loosing contact as you release the switch.

I doubt it is the switch......
