Hi can anyone give me any advice, i am buying a brand new house (should be moving next month) and already feel i have been forced into buying all the intregated goods, and other things i class as essentials, i do not want to pay the price for the carpets as i can get better quality much cheaper!!! i have been told by the company i am buying the house from that i cannot put carpets in the house until after i have the keys and all my furniture has been moved in therefore i will have to take all my furniture back out the next day to have the carpets fitted is there any way around this??

  • Do you have to move in as soon as you get the keys? If you can stay where you are for a few days you can get new carpets fitted and then move all your furniture in
  • i have part exchanged my house and have been told i have to be out the same day.

Find a local removal company that also does storage, or will leave your furniture in the van overnight or two nights, so's you can get the carpets in first....?

    Or a self-store company?

You aren't being forced into anything, you need to brush up your negotiating skills is all.

  • maybe forced is a bit harsh, i am no good at negotiating i always back down, i have tried negotiating on the carpets and am not getting anywhere, they are paying for the removal company i did get that and a few other things, i am unable to leave my stuff overnight.

Then negotiate in writing and/ or with the support of someone with a more 'bullish' nature.

Which housing company have you bought from ? I have just bought a new build through keepmoat. Got carpets in with the house, did'nt even have to haggle ! The only advice i can give is do not buy any of the appliances with them, they rip you off big style. We saved around 500 quid by getting our own appliances. They can't force you into anything, and don't be tempted to add them on top of the mortgage.
  • we have bought through persimmon, I did buy the appliances as they would not put in carcasses or doors for me to fit in integral goods, so I would then have to go out and find the same units and then buy the appliances (they where a rip off.) I need to try and save money elsewhere and do not want to buy there carpets but dont want to move into a house with no carpets, there is enough to do when you move in without moving furniture unneccesarily.
