What do I do about this?

I bought a dvd off ebay the other day.

The seller say it is brand new and sealed, but when it arrived I discovered it's a copy, and what looks like a bad one at that!

What can I do? I'd like to report him as a dodgy seller because he's selling copies and not even being honest about it, how do I do that?

Thanks for your help

hi i had same problem contact seller first nicely tell him your not happy first see if he will give you refund its nothing to them
i made the following mistake bought what i thought was an origional cheapish
    found its a copy
so asked for refund but my seller refused unless i posted at my own cost to him so i would be outlaying more then
1 reported to e bay as item not as described and that it was copy they then end his listing
2 now i did leaveeneg feedback to warn others but be aware he more than likely will neg you back
3 asked paypal for refund opened dispute
however i lost out they said i would only be refunded if i post back to him and use track and trace which i dont get back
this would cost a fortune at my cost and he gets his disk back to pass onto another mug
4 cost is not worth it sometimes just gota learn they win
e bay will strike them if you say its copy though
all dependendant on how much fight you want
5 you can take the disk i believe to trading standards who are clamping down on pirates
its not illegal i believe to buy them only to sell them
his adress should be on your paypal reciept if not play nicely pretend you will return it and ask for a return adresss trading standards best bet

Thanks Bleugh, I couldn't find that on the ebay website! I've reported the item number so hopefully he'll get his bottomed kicked!

And thanks Sue, I don't think I'll try and get refund/send it back, it was only cheap so really not worth it, I'm just cross that he really makes out that he's selling proper ones and they're copies (grr) I won't leave feedback either, it's private so no point. I do really want to get him into trouble with ebay tho!

You have this persons real name, address and full ebay details.
Please report them to FACT - this will take only 2 minutes of your time and is better than reporting to ebay because they will target them at home, AND you can remain anonymous.

It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Thanks Smartie. I have reported him :-) I hope they go and kick his bottom as well! I didn't have many details from him, he'd obviously fudged his address but he had a blueyonder email so hopefully they'll be able to track him down and give him a solid ticking off!

  • Have you tried putting it back on ebay and selling it?

LOL! It's illegal to sell copies.

Even if its not cost you much you could always try and get your money back via paypal dispute?

Stratford, a good suggestion but then I'd have to report myself and it might all get a bit confusing ;-)

Hjb123: The problem is that now I've got it I might as well keep it the dvd now I've got it (despite the fact that it's a copy!). And I figure they might not be over chuffed if I tried and get my money back without actually giving the dvd back! But thanks :-)
