Hey everyone.
I'm new to Vista (my old laptop had XP but has since decided to give up the ghost so OH has given me his Vista laptop as he now has a Macbook).
One thing that's annoying me is that the UAC pops up everytime I want to run a program I know is safe.
I don't want to disable the UAC so is there a way I can set an exception for the programs I know are safe to use?
Thanks in advance.:)

Not that I'm aware of, but I'm happy to be corrected.
A workaround it to disable the UAC, put on any one of many AV progs that allow you to decide which progs are / are not allowed ever - and, which are / are not allowed to even ask your permission to have an event.
To be honest I ran Vista and WinXP from a year before it's release with the UAC totally disabled, and deliberately without a virus checker as part of the ' beta ' test team.
I then ran WinXP for 6 months with Kapersky beta on and UAC switched off, and a separate 6 months with F-secure beta on and UAC switched off and never had a problem.
As always with these things, ask many people, get many opinions, decide what's best for your personal needs, hope this helps !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. You could try this tool from Norton. It changes the way UAC works so it 'learns' things and doesn't keep asking the same questions.

Incidentally I've never tried the above tool so it's at your own risk.
I'm suprised you're running Vista though if it is a new machine. The UAC in Windows 7 is far better. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
What programs are you using that are triggering UAC prompts?
A lot of software wasn't written with UAC in mind when Vista was released, which generated unnecessary prompts. Have you checked for updated versions of them at all? Disabling the protection that UAC provides is strongly not recommended.0 -
just turn it off its a waste of time really annoying0
