How about some thing more unusual.
Renault Val Satis 2.2 DCI
Citroen c5 (have a friend who's 6ft 6, and has plenty of room in this)
alfa romeo 156
Seat Leon0 -
i have just been looking at the Renault Val Satis, tyres at £80 a wheel budget are not cheap, but the V6 diesel looks to give same MPG as the 2.2!
Looks great car for the money to be honest, just worried if anything went wrong being big bucks to fix being so rare0 -
How about a BMW 320d?0

Will have above average running costs, as its deemed a premium model - you get an awful lot of car for little money. The v6 diesel is a great unit though. On the plus side, you'll probably never see another one on the road other than yours, unlike a bmw
Phone around a few vauxhall specialists to get an idea on service costs to change cambelt (assuming its not chain driven), brakes, exhaust etc.0 -

For £5K it would be one of the ones right in the middle of the "self destructing turbo" and "swirl flap ingesting descruction of engine" age range, unless a previous owner has had those parts replaced already
For £5K I fancy a Mazda 6 and you might as well have the 2.0 petrol because the fuel consumption and other running costs is not really any different from the 1.8.0 -

Yes, 'tis true. Many owners have removed the swirl flaps - it would definitely be something to watch out for though. Or the op could go for a petrol version.0 -
