Boiler Service London

I have called around a few companies and asked for a quote for a boiler service. Most haven't got back to me as yet. One company quoted £69 which includes a free carbon monoxide alarm with a 7 year battery. I have found the CO alarm for £20 and thats the cheapest I can find it online. I assume this is a very fair cost to pay? I am in London.

What is involved in a boiler service exactly and how long will it take?

I am in London and I know that will probably make a difference to the price.

Thanks in advance.

Good afternoon: what constitutes a boiler service would be dictated by the manufacturer so the best place to look would be the boiler manual. Cost in London approx. £70 (and more if you're in the Congestion Zone/problematic parking) plus parts if required e.g. burner seals. More info from the HHIC. The OH would also check the rest of the central heating system and clean the magnetic filter e.g Boiler Buddy etc. as part of the service.

Just a quick update if anyone is looking for help and advice regarding their boiler service. I had mine done today, (I am in London) and the cost was very fair. The guy was very thorough and showed me a 30 point service schedule that they use. He said it wasn't as bad as some he has seen but needing doing none the less.

Also, I have a nice new shiny carbon monoxide alarm sited on the wall which he drilled in. Should last 7 years (or so they say)
  • Hello there, I am very sorry to hijack this thread but I stumbled upon it through google while I was searching for a boiler service engineer.

My predicament is this: A friend of mine was over at my house yesterday (rented through agents) and he is pretty handy when it comes to DIY (he says) He stated that the new boiler installation wasn't up to the right standards because the flue was not sealed through properly. There is a gap to oputside which we can see out of. The boiler is a combi.

I was wondering what impact this could have and whether a service would be a good idea.

The agents have said that the boiler was installed correctly and by registered plumbers.

What is the situation as regards my safety and my rights? I am a little scared to go to the agent and start demanding something I might not need,

    Thanks very much.

Good afternoon: do you have copy of the Landlord's Gas Safety certificate (aka a CP12)?...more on a Landlord's legal obligations here
The flue hole must be completely sealed to prevent products of combustion from entering the property.

  • hi,
I do not have the certificate. There is some paper work just above the boiler.

The flue is not completely sealed and I also think that the flue is second hand as is the boiler. The flue pipe is scratched and has a few dents in it and has started corroding on the outside as it is about 40cm long on the outside wall. ie sticking out 40cm on the outside and dented on the inside with corrosion.

I am pretty sure this isn't safe but what do I do? There is a carbon monoxide alarm right next to the boiler but this does not work.

I have turned off the boiler when not in use and we have not had the central heating on as I have two young children.

Can anyone help as to further action?
    Thanks very much.

Good afternoon: did you look at the link in my previous post?

  • Hi,

I had a look at the link. There is a gas safety certificate, I have found it now. It says the hob must not be used as it does not have an fsd or isolation valve.

It also says flue not sealed adequately and warning notices issued but there are no signs of wanring notices.

The hob is working fine though??? There is also a gas fire which looks quite old but we have never turned this on. There is gas coming throught the pipes though so it does work.

My advice would be not to use the appliances and get a Gas Registered engineer around as soon as possible.

Where are you? I am sure there is an engineer in here who can help or advise?

Goodluck, you sound like you need it.

Hi there, I need a boiler service in London aswell, please could you pass on the details as I part own two rented properties on the outskirts of London and would like the boilers serviced. The gas certificates are coming up for renewal/re-inspection so will get everything done at once. Or if anyone else knows a good reliable (honest) gas engineer or you are in fact an engineer aswell please let me know or post your details here.

    Kind regards,
