The heater should not be able to charge during peak hours.

One spur should be for the off-peak curcuit, the other spur would be for a booster fan, which is just an extra heater element (like in a kettle) and a fan to blow hot air out. Normally this would be for later on at night when the bricks have lost their heat, or if you forgot to switch the heater on over night to charge up

The fact that one switch has a neon light on during daytime [peak] hours, would seem to indicate that this is the auxilary/daytime boost circuit, and so unless you switch the boost fan on at the the heater controls, then it should not be actually using any electricity

Thank you, but I have already checked the convector heater seems to be connected to the other switch as it doesn't work when this is switched off.

It gets weirder, when checking my units on the meter this morning there is one reading that hasn't budged in 24 hours, hence all the electricity is being recorded at the one rate. I fear it is rate 2 the day rate, so I will have to phone British Gas shortly as there is definitely a problem with the meter, and I also suspect the Economy 7 timer must also be wrong!

    Thanks for all the replies!
