MOT, Inner Gaitor Insecure... any help?

On my MOT i got an Advisory notice for:

Nearside front drive shaft inner gaitor insecure

Can anyone help me on wether this is serious or not?

    It may not be serious at the moment but it should have a new band fitted to prevent the joint failing prematurely.

    You have a very nice MOT tester and you can fix it with something as simple as a well fitting cable tie. It is a failure though, not an advisory!

    Ok, sorry but what is the drive shaft inner gaitor, this is my first car so im learning!

    A gaitor is a bit like a protective 'sock' that goes over joints that could fail when exposed to the elements over time. Common failure and normally very ceap to remedy.

  • Hi Lewis. The gaiter is a "rubber"sleeve that covers the joint(s) of the drive shaft to keep the dirt out. If it is split, then the shaft has to be disconnected to replace it. As previously stated: a cable tie will do your job.

    is not a failure as not near brakes
    may be ok with a new band or tie depends if its a rubber boot or plastic one
