How much should I be paying for contents insurance?

Nationwide are calling me tomorrow to give me a quote for contents insurance, I would like to know what I should be paying to avoid getting ripped off. I would like an old for new policy and would probably only need the minimum cover but would want accidental damage cover.
The last policy I had seemed very pricy but I really did shop around (two years ago) I was paying £24 per month which included accident cover and extra for my laptop which I often travelled with, I rarly take it out the house now though.
My partner pays just £14.50 for building & contents cover with Egg, does anyone know if thats only available to Egg customers?
Many thanks!
Sarah

I've just been quoted £13 a month from direct line & it's cheaper if you do it as a 1 off payment to avoid the interest.
Thats contents & building cover but not the extra accidental damage cover when away from home.
my last one was £24 a month too.

Egg is available for anyone... after all it is just an Axa policy under the Egg branding but you do get a 10% discount if you are an egg customer.
Like motor, home is a rated producted so unless you ask your next door neighbour or such then no one else can really say what the "correct" figure should be.
My contents insurance inc personal possessions away from the home, bike cover but not full accidental damage cover is £120 a year but I do have a relatively high sum insured. As "entertainment" equipment is covered for accidental damage as standard, jewelary etc is covered away from the home under the PP cover I dont think the extra for AD cover was worth it for me for things like my sofas etcAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Barclays insurance is recommended as they were doing a price match + £50 cheque offer recently. Also if you pay monthly they don't charge you interest.

To answer your question - Our contents is bundled in with buildings so I can't tell you how much it is - sorry. Why not do a few online quotes to get a ball park figure for Contents insurance? That's Numberwang!0 -
It depends on a number of factors:
1) Where do you live?
2) What is your occupation?
3) What are your living arrangements?
4) What sort of security do you have on the property?
5) Does the property have a flat roof?
6) Is the property within a 1/4 mile radius of any watercourse?
7) How old are you?
8) Do you smoke?
9) What cover do you have.
So for instance, if like me, you are living in London, area student in their 20s, then your premium will be higher, as insurance companies do not like students. (i'm with Endsleigh, and they still don't like students - my premium went up £100 when i changed my occupation!)
I am paying £36 a month for £9k of cover. :eek:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
