When scrapping a car what documentation do you need and is it best to take the expired tax discs out before the scrapman takes it?
Many thanks

Your V5 and yes of course take out your tax disc and claim a refund.
A legitimate Car Breaker will issue a Certificate of Destruction.0 -
Tax disc has expired but was worried about fraud. Is that a possible issue?
The chap is coming to collect the car. Will he still issue a certificate of destruction?
Also forgot does the scrapman need the MOT failure certificate?
Many thanks0 -

He will issue a Certificate if he is a genuine Car Breaker registered with the DVLA.
No requirement for any MOT.
Tax disc ( expired ) shouldn't cause any problems.0 -
Worst thing that could happen getting it "scrapped" is if unregistered dismantlers get hold of it (usually travellers). They may quite happily remove bits that get them a little money and dump the shell of the car somewhere, then you can expect to get letters and fines in the post etc. So long as you get a certificate of destruction then you can avoid any come back at a later date.0

What car are you scrapping?0 -
either get a certificate of destruction when it's collected or get the person taking it to fill the forms in as if they were buying it as a car to carry on using.
That way you are covered if the car reappears on the road.
Don’t worry about the tax disc0 -
Forgot to ask, do you have to pay them to scrap the car?
Many Thanks0 -
yep, give me £50 and I'll take it off your hands.
Seriously, they will pay you, you get more if you deliver it to them. Look in your local paper and have a phone around to see who will give you the most0 -
You shouldn't have to pay. You may get a bit of cash but not much. I believe some law was intoduced which means car MFR's have to cover the cost of scrapping if there is a cost, and you call a dealer to get them to sort it out - but I doubt you'll be asked for money.0
