Hi - Anybody know if there is a cheap way to emulsion over gloss please? I know I could buy the correct colours in gloss (that I already have in emulsion), am just asking if there is a money saving way to do this, so I can use the emulsion I already have. Finished work won't take any abuse, so would be happy with an emulsion finish. Thanks

No, You need to provide a key for the emulsion to stick, are you talking walls or woodwork?0

I have emulsioned over gloss in the past with no problem although it may take a couple of coats. I think it'd be much harder to gloss over gloss if you see what I mean. Personally I prefer the look of emulsion anyway; I'm not too keen on shiny paintwork.0

Hi,
if you rubbed down with fine paper and a couple of coats of emulsion, I would think it would be fine, or........depending on surface, (smooth) you could cover it with lining paper and then emulsion.0 -
Thanks folks. Will give it a go0

I wouldnt use emulsion specially on wood, as emulsion will flake off with constant use.
Either use an oilbased paint that is suitable for wood and metal, or if you cant stand the smell of oilbase and want it to dry very quickly, then go for waterbased undercoat and gloss.0
