Contents Insurance - Build Date

Hello
I am looking to take out contents insurance (buildings insurance is provided by the factor) for my home and I have a query regarding the build date of the property.
The property is listed, built circa 1870, but converted to flats in 2004. Should I be putting 1870 down or 2004? I'm finding 1870 results in a lack of insurers wanting to quote..
Any help appreciated.
Andy.

You have to declare 1870.
It is the date the property was built from the foundation up and not the conversion date that is relevant.
What you will find is that some Insurers will not quote online, but they will quote if you phone them, providing it fits within their underwriting guidelines. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Thanks for that.
Why does it matter if they are only quoting for the contents? It has been converted properly, so essentially no different to a new build.

It is related to the fire risk and any others where the age of property is a factor, in assessing the chance of there being a claim for your Contents The Insurers will by the age of the property generalise about risk. Properties built in 1870 will generally be constructed of different materials than a property built in 2004.
Anyway 1870 is the relevant date. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums.
