Mercedes E class stuck in Park
Options
My E class has been parked on my drive for six months. With some degree of difficulty and with a new battery I've managed to reverse it off the drive. It's now stuck on the road at the front of the house as the gear lever won't shift out of 'P'. Any help would be appreciated as I can't leave the damn thing there.

Calling to AA/RAC?
Ringing Mercedes dealers?
Contacting some independent mechanics?Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
On some autos you can lift up the gear lever surround and insert a screwdriver into a slot to override the gear lock and allow you to shift it into neutral. It's often even easier on Japanese cars which have the lock release mechanism on the surface. The man without a signature.0

Hoping it's the same for me petrol head. What's carsoft mb?
RAC fellah came and shoved a screwdriver down the backend of the gears. At least I can move the bloomin thing now. Just needs a screwdriver to get going. People use these anyway don't they......instead of keys!:rotfl:0 -
Googled that carsoft so I understand what that is.
I'm assuming changing the brake light switch is reasonably cheap and reasonably easy. Think I'll try a straight replacement first.0 -
5 minute job and £9.60 for the part from the dealer (my car has ESP, I believe the older switch for cars with ASR and BAS is a bit dearer) . might not be whats causing your fault though but I suppose its cheaper than paying for a diagnotic.Googled that carsoft so I understand what that is.
