Unable to send mail from Outlook Express

Hi all
I'm using OE as a mail client for my Gmail account on IMAP.
I've followed the instructions on the Gmail page for the port numbers, etc to set up the incoming and outgoing ports and can receive mail OK.
However, it won't let me send any mail from either my Gmail or Tiscali account.
I get error 0x800CCC0B.
I can send directly from webmail just not through OE.
Anyone any suggestions?

Todays top tip,
I made up a simple Excel spreadsheet with various columns and rows.
Then entered the pop, imap, and smtp settings, including Server Authentication
for friends/relatives email accounts, using OE, Thunderbird etc.
I printed it off and now have a quick reference when anybody has a problem.Move along, nothing to see.0
