Unfortunately most the details about the various versions and changes are on this very long thread - where the guy in charge of the GDB2 project used to post:
http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=53291
Here's the files and information on how to do it:
http://gdb.helpbytes.co.uk/
It's just a matter of following the Guide blindly as the output the box gives out is often different from what it says there depending on what version you were using/are upgrading to (The guide was written for UK_ 2_1_5 but used for all versions after that)
You just have to do everything on that list and hope for the best.
Sometimes you have to do it 4 or 5 times and it'll suddenly just work even though it failed for no reason before0 -
Thanks SRA,
I have seen the information you posted and thats what i'm trying to follow.
Problem is, I get to the stage where I set HyperTerminal, plug the box in and press the reset button and nothing happens!
Any ideas?

That's probably happend to me.
like I said, you can do it following the exact same instructions to the letter, and one time it will just work for no reason.
It's very difficult for me to help from memory, but it was really just a case of trial and error - changing something each time just in case since the instructions are vague.
Eg. It doesn't tell you when the Freeview box should be plugged in. Throughout the procedure?
It doesn't tell you if the box should be on or in standby before you press the reset button.
There was another thing you could do:
Press reset on the back and type in 35 on the remote. Leave the box for ten minutes and press reset again
That was the emergency procedure to restore the box to the software it came from the factory with in case your firmware go corrupted (and even that you might have to do several times before it worked).
It might have been suggested on one occasion that you do that before trying to update - especially if you were trying to put on an earlier version of the software
but once again - all this is from my (very poor) memory0 -
Thanks for the help SRA, will give it a try!!
Cheers
