My daughter has just got a eeepc2g and I am trying to sort out the printer element - thanks to help from a previous thread I have setup printer sharing and her netbook is showing the printer listed however I can't seem to get the drivers installed for it?
When I try and download the drivers from the brothers website, they go onto a download screen but it won't let me open them - just does nothing. I have tried searching for help but am getting really confused- I just don't understand this linux system (cups and something else) at all - and am starting to lose the will to live lol.
The netbook is asus eeepc 2g,
the printer is brother mfc-260c
If anyone could explain to me in simple laymans terms how to do it I would be really grateful - really wish I had got one with XP on it now!!
Thank you.

Are you downloading linux drivers?
Do they actually download?
Are you logged on as the user 'root'?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Yes it's the linux drivers thats being downloaded.
I think they are downloading - they appear in a 'download' box that appears on the screen and you can see the % as it's downloading, it lists the drivers and at the end says Open and Remove, when I click on Open it doesn't do anything.
You've got me stumped on the last one lol0 -
Consider a "root user" to be an "administrator". Often Linux will not allow installations from "guest" users.
When linux was installed it will have asked for a root password. This is what you need to continue. If Linux came preinstalled, then the password will be in the accompanying documentation.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -
It came preinstalled but the only thing that came with it I'm pretty sure was just the warranty card and the manual so I will need to go and have a look through them to find something.0

I've now discovered how to open a terminal lol, taken me all this time to get that far!!0
