Bleedin' MBNA again!
I received at letter today threatening 'Default & Termination' (they're going to send a Terminator round?:rotfl: ) and telling me to pay £200 NOW.
Needless to say I do not have £200 to spare, they could have it if I did. I have been paying them £55 per month for about 12 months now but they still continue to ask for more. Every few weeks they ring up & ask me to increase the payment by £10 or more:rolleyes: . Luckily I read this board often & have heard about these tactics so I know what to do. Thanks MSE members!:T
Anyway rang them & got told it is a computer generated letter that they have to send me by law.
They couldn't explain why the letter was demanding I pay £200 now 'or else', especially as I have never missed a payment.
Grr!

How long ago was the agreement made?
MBNA tend to like an update on your circumstances every 6 months.
Don't worry too much - a Default notice will usually mean it gets passed to a DCA who are much nicer to deal with than MBNA. If you are on reduced payment arrangement you are no longer a customer but a debtor and its easier for them to get their money back by selling the debt rather than waiting for you to pay it back so you start spending with them again.
Don't forget - they are an American company whose Default rules are different to British companies. They are also harder to touch with complaints because of US laws favouring creditors over consumers.0 -

surely that wouldn't make a blind bit of difference, they might be a us country but they are trading in the UK and don't they have to follow uk laws etc.

The agreement was made about 12 months ago & in that time I have been passed back & forth between RMA & MBNA. I understand that these agreements need reviewing but MBNA are the only creditor that rings up on a regular basis to ask for more money and RMA make threats and are very unpleasant to deal with. I know you are not supposed to favor one creditor over another but if I ever came into some money I'd try & pay off MBNA first due to all the hassle I get from them.
I got my statement from MBNA this week and it states that my account facilities remain withdrawn, fair enough BUT they had increased my credit limit by £200! Don't suppose it makes that much difference as I can't use the card (and never want to again) but seems odd to increase the credit limit on a withdrawn account. I think they make up their own rules as they go along!

Believe me, it does make a difference. MBNA have some of the most scandalous policies ever and the OFT are struggling to stop their behaviour as in a lot of areas the US law overrides the UK law and MBNA hide behind this.0 -
