Currently I am with EON SaveOnline NSC and am thinking of changing to NPower Sign Online 17 Dual Fuel. Ny next EON bill date is the 29th March. When should I click the button to insigate the move to NPower so as to minimise the lack of final bill discount that I believe EON apply when leaving? Thanks in advance.

Immediately after the bill is received; it can take 6-8 weeks to switch so you would lose the discount on April and part/all of May's usage. The best time to switch to minimise the lost of discount for you would be after June's bill as you would lose discount on the Summer months (if we have one!) but you have to weigh that up vs paying the SaveOnline tariff for 3 months more.

So would i be right in thinking that if i went ahead today and started the switch if the new supplier started supplying me on the 7th April I would only loose my EON discount for the period 29th March - 7th April?

It depends when they first notify E-on - they will not notify E-on only when you are switched - they are notified and exchanging info for weeks before. If E-on are alerted there is no guarantee that they will let your future bill go out on time. They could, if they like, put it on hold and you could end up with four or five months without a discount.

The safest way is as brewerdave suggests. It won't be the minimum possible but every other strategy is risky. It's up to you whether or not to risk it.

Ok i get it safest to start the switch immediately after your bill has just been produced. Thanks all.

    Hi milgo,

As others have said, the best time to minimise the discount loss is in the summer months when your bills are normally smaller.

When you have initiated a switch to a new supplier, E.ON will produce your normal quarterly bills if they are due, these won't be put on hold.

Once E.ON have received your meter readings from your new supplier, your final bill will be produced.

Changing suppliers takes around 4-6 to complete.

    Helena :)
