Money issues, 6th form & uni

Okay, I know I'm still in year 11 so it's not something major to worry about.
However, I cannot get any EMA money as my parents are way over the threshold - although they're a 5 figure sum in debt (on a debt management plan now mind you)
I was just wondering what options would there be for me in terms of money for 6th form (which will probably be nothing).
Will I be affected when it comes to Uni money? Any help is appreciated
Thanks

You might be able to get a part-time job. Your 6th form should also have a learner support fund.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

A part time job is probably the way to go, and then you can also save for uni, and you may also be able to get temporary work there during university holidays as well

Okay - when it comes to it, should I open up a savings account and store away this money so I can't touch it?
Thank you for the replies, both of you."We are the change that we seek."0 -

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but when you go to university your maintenance funding will be based on your parents' income and their debts won't be taken into account.
This won't mean that can't go but it'll be a good idea to have savings behind you and be prepared to work part time whilst you study.0 -
Hmm, I hadn't thought of that, good advice there onwBe happy, it's the greatest wealth0

Okay, should I consider a GAP year then to boost the amount of money to take to Uni?Direct Gov link.
Can't post it because I'm a new user.
Thanks for the link, have read through, I'm now a bit clearer.
Have 'thanked' you both.
Thanks for all the replies on here by the way."We are the change that we seek."0 -

If you feel confident that you could get a job and save a reasonable amount of money from it, that would certainly be something to consider. It might also be a good idea to aim for a university with comparatively low living costs, as long as this wouldn't affect your career plans.0 -

I probably could in a GAP year, I'd just be worried about not studying for a whole year.
I want to become a teacher (primarily Business). I know I haven't even started 6th form yet, but I've looked at a few Universities. Would I be better going to something that's close(ish) to home, such as De Montfort or Northampton University? I've looked around Northampton and the onsite accomodation is very cheap.
I know I'm probably 18 months away from looking into all this stuff seriously but I feel I need to know about it know.
Thanks for all your help!"We are the change that we seek."0 -
Where do you want to go? Which course suits your interests? Do any of them have links with local schools (probably through the student union rather than the department) which can allow you to get the all-important teaching experience? The list goes on. No one here, or anywhere else, can tell you where it would be better to go.
As an aside, can anyone tell me why the word 'gap' is in capital letters? The same is usually done to 'uni'. They aren't acronyms.0
