Feel so bad...

It's my birthday on Sunday and I've asked my family and o/h if they could give me money instead of a pressie. But this money is going towards my debt, as I can't justify spending it on myself when I have so much debt to clear.
I feel awful about it, has anyone else done the same?

DOn't think about it in that way.
I've done the same this year and last year too. I think the way to approach it is to think about what you want to do once you're out of debt and see it as putting the money towards that (sort of like saving up for something but starting at less than 0!)
Also, I would take a little of the money to treat yourself to something- even if its only five or ten pounds for a CD or some nice bubble bath or a bottle of wine to celebrate your birthday, we all need treats now and then to encourage us to keep going.
Don't get too down, just try and think of it in a positive light- surely working towards being debt-free is a better way to use the money than just frittering it away in the pub or on clothes you'll only wear for 3 months?"People who "do things" exceed my endurance,

Ive done it

I justify by saying well its a present I bought myself a long time ago that Im still paying off
If I feel embarassed about telling the person who gave me the money I do tell a little lie and say, we went for a night out in the pub with it. We hadsa good time, thanks very much
Better than wasting the money on something you wont use, or have forgotten about
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Cheers girls, you've made me feel better and I'm glad i'm not the only one who does it. I'll buy myself a nice wee bottle of vino and try and not feel too guilty when I bung the rest on my c/c.
I guess I'm kinda treating myself to becoming debt free, albeit, it's a long way away.
Thanks again

How much are we talking about? It could be worth MUCH more!!!!http://www.whatsthecost.com/snowball.aspx
feed it into snowball, with the debt you'll be paying off, then see how much what they're giving you is really worth to you - that should stop you feeling guilty!!!!!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
