My wedding for less than £5000, can we do it?

I thought I'd start a thread about my fabulous-on-a-shoestring wedding, so you guys can see that it can be done (for the numbers we are having) and also so I can track my spending. I'll post pics as and when too so you can all see what I've chosen. The date of my wedding is 16th April 2011.

We're having 85-90 during the day for a sit down meal then 150 in the evening with a buffet. I have 5 adult bridesmaids, 2 flowergirls, a pageboy and an unofficial male maid of honour who'll be dressed as an usher on the day. You might think I'm mad to think I'll get it all for less than £5000, but here goes on what I've spent/committed to so far:

£234 My dress (Landy)
£23 Bridesmaid dresses all from Ebay
£23 "
£23 "
£43 "
£43 "
£575 venue hire (all day) £100 deposit paid
£392 church service all in with organist

We are getting our own caterers in for the food, our budget for that is £2500 ish which is doable from the research I've done. That's the biggest part of our budget!

My flowergirls are going to be having dresses from Debenhams, full price £45 each but I have one eye on ebay for second hand dresses for them. Fingers crossed.

Flowers will be done by qualified relatives haha. My wedding car is my Grandads old vintage car driven by my brother (another suit to hire but if we hire 5 we get one free so thats 6 suits for £350ish) which will be lovely as my Grandad is no longer with us. We are getting married during Lent so we are allowed flowers in the church but we have to take them for the reception.

My dress is champagne and dark ivory. The bridesmaids will be in white, as I don't really fancy them wearing bright colours. The colourscheme for the flowers/cravats etc is cornflower blue and sage green, I plan on having the bridesmaids with flowers in their hair as well as bouquets, but the dresses plain and white. I might not have a bouquet and just have a wrist corsage, I'm not sure yet.

Rings, these are nice and easy. I want a very slim white gold band, hubby to be wants a very plain white gold band so we expect to be paying £200-250 for those, maximum.

That's all I can think of so far. I'll post some pics in a bit.

I sorted out the bridesmaids gifts today. They always complement me on a necklace I wear which is just charms. I've decided to present my bridesmaids with similar. I've bought charms with their first name initial on, swarovski hearts, and each bridesmaid is then having a third charm which is something to do with their interests. For example, my maid of honour likes to paint, so her third charm will be a sterling silver artists palette and paintbrush. Total for these will be around £50 but I'm paying for these outside our budget.

Above is bridesmaid dress #1 @ £23. Unfortunately, they didn't go up past a 12 so for two of my bridesmaids I found something very similar at £43, see below:

The bridesmaids will be having marabou stoles. I'm making these as the ones I saw in Debenhams for £30 upwards are just marabou sewn onto fabric, I can do that myself!

And for the little bridesmaids, a marabou collar thing like below:

I love the bridesmaid's dresses! And the stoles! Where are you getting the necklaces from? I think that sounds lovely!

Your whole wedding sounds like it's going to be fab! :D
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

    The necklace charms are all off ebay. I've found it pretty good for wedding things. I've bought a lot from the same sellers who combine postage or do it for free. The general consensus from my bridesmaids is that they love the dresses. I'm gonna have them with big blue and green flowers in their hair like this to match the cravats as all my bridesmaids have lovely long hair;

My dress is a Landy rip off of a designer one. I don't want to post it but if anyone PM's me I'll link them up.
  • Can you post a link to the ebay seller please? The charm necklace sounds a fab idea for my MOH x
