Hey guys,
Im getting close to exchange and want to make sure I dont forget to do anything important. (Also im abroad at the mo so everything is a bit harder)
From the date of exchange I must have buildings and contents insurance, I know that.
Also what happens about utility bills, the house is occupied at the moment so they obviously have suppliers..... What do I have to do.
I dont have too much stuff so dont need a removals service,
Basically Im trying to make a list......
Thanks in advance for the help

The check list is useful but I still have no idea what happens about phones/gas/electric/water etc
Advice please anyone?0 -
Utilities you need to take a reading on your first day and ring it through to the current supplier and provide your payment details. Water company you are stuck with, energy ask to change off the standard (expensive) tariff with immediate effect. Phone depends on what you want to happen, what you have at the moment and what services are in the house already. You might choose to port your current landline number, you might need to install a new landline, you might need to simply have it reconnected.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Hi,
Our broadband supplier needed two weeks notice to cancel and re-set up,Not sure if this is the same with all of them though.
Our buyer was pretty difficult all through our sale, our solicitor advised us to take photos of all the meter readings with a date on the picture and also take photos of the house.
Lo and behold he tried to say we had used way more electricity, than our final reading.Thankfully the electric company believed us as we had photographic proof,Just another headache we did'nt need !!
if possible ask for the present occupants utility suppliers, this should be found on the fixtures and fittings checklist, Saves loads of calling round if they are different to yours.
Organise Mail re-direction
Change car insurance ,driving licence and registered keeper docs as soon as you move I did'nt realise the high penalty you will recieve if you forget and get stopped.0 -
Thanks for that snowbelle, ur post has given me another question. I spent 8 months out of the country a year and so during these 8 months my car lives with my parents and they drive it to keep it running, therefore it spends significantly more time there than it will at my new home,
so car insurance i was going to leave it at their address but i guess the licence and keeper dox i will have to change????0 -
Why don't you check with the insurer to be on the safe side?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

For car insurance you will need to check but I'm pretty sure that my insurance company requires me to declare that the vehicle is registered at the address for which it is insured. And these days everything is electronically registered so they could easily check if they wanted.0

Hi,
We have moved into temporary rented for 6 months whilst we look for a new house most of our mail is re-directed to my mums as I dont want too much mail coming to this house which has new tenants every 6 months,I explained this to my car insurance company who were happy to send my docs to my mums, but driving licence and registered keeper docs have to be at the address you reside and the fine is hefty if you do not change (In the thousands I think!)Would it not be preferable to transfer it all to your mum or dads name and you drive it when you need it or is that a bad idea?0 -
Forgot to add that it was free to change the docs and driving licence as long as it's a photocard one,Insurance was £4 cheaper as my mum lives in a more preferable postcode!0
