Le Creuset Cassis range on offer @ John Lewis

Popped into JL today with the intention of picking up a Le Creuset casserole dish. Had originally planned to get the large round one for around £140, but noticed in store that the prices had dropped quite significantly. (Now down to £105!)

Ended up coming out with the 29cm oval dish, 20cm round and 4 mugs for not a whole lot more than we would have paid for the original one we were after!

Not terribly MSE but a good deal if you have your heart set on the new yummy purple colour like I did!

(Plus they have the cutest little glamour stoneware pots on offer, free with every casserole dish purchase, JL exclusive)

  • Not Le Creuset and not purple but http://www.procook.co.uk/?offerDetails=245 have some fantastic Cast Iron pots at some really good prices at the moment.

I bought a black shallow pan from them having been inspired by Nigel Slater's use of something similar and it was £40 delivered, they have large casseroles for £35 delivered

I'm really pleased with the quality of ours and with their customer service, the initial pan arrived damaged (box had suffered quite a severe impact by the look of it) and they resolved this very well and we now have a new, very shiny pan which is fantastic.

I wouldn't pay the extra for Le Creuset, all my cast iron is either old stuff from car boot sales or is from Tesco! Even Ikea have a lovely range of cast iron cookwear now.

Thanks Claire, didn't even think about mentioning the outlet stores! No idea how the costs there compare.

Aw, thanks for the sweet post <3 Tbh, I've wanted a Le Creuset casserole dish for a long while and as soon as I stumbled upon Cassis a month or so back on the site I fell in love with it! So I am glad I didn't choose a colour and buy one last year before it was released, because I heart matching sets too! I may not have the full set yet but hopefully one day (very far into the future!) we both will! The colour was only available at the beginning of the month, so we may both get lucky in the New Year sales next year :) A lot of people seem to post Le Creuset bargains after Christmas.

And if you're lucky enough to live a sensible distance from Andover (I'm not, sadly) they have occasional sales:

  • Have you noticed there is also a free gift if you buy certain Le Creuset from JL

  • I think Le Creuset is MSE. When I use my casserole I only need to use the smallest gas light on the lowest setting, once the pan has heated up. It keeps the heat in and cooks evenly.

That's a feature of cast iron cookware not just of Le Creuset, LC is just the most expensive and well marketed version of it.

I've got a selection of cast iron cookware, all mix and match in colour and mostly bought from carboot sales or auctions with some new additions that were from Tesco and now my shiny new Procook one.

Le Creuset is lovely, the colours are great, the quality is fab but there is lots of equally good and much cheaper cast iron cookware out there that just isn't marketed like LC.
