Hi,
not 100%sure where to post but I'm really after any advice anyone has to offer. I purchased a tv from tesco on 01/02/05 and it broke about 3 weeks ago. I phoned them knowing I was entitled to ask for repair or replacement and eventually got a form sent to me for an out of guarantee item as originally they said sorry can't help.
Anyway had a letter back today saying sorry can't help but here's an £80 giftcard for the 'intrinsic value' of the tv. Now this doesn't really help me as I still have no tv and I don't think I can get an equivalent for £80 from Tesco (nothing on their website anyway) I can't afford to add the extra to it to buy one from there and I can't even look around for a better deal as I don't have a spare £150 floating around to buy a tv (which is what first one cost me)
Am I being unreasonable and expecting too much to ask for a replacement or repair not a giftcard? What are my options or do I have to just accept what I'm being offered. I really am not after anything better than what I had before as that was fine for my needs but I just don't have the money to split the difference. I really expected a tv to last longer than 16months.
Any advice please???

I think getting £80 back on a tv you bought well over a year ago that's out of guarantee to be a damn good result!0

As it wasnt faulty at the time of purchase then the retailor has the right to choose how the handle it but they have to give you a fair "settlement"
It is surprising that they have coughed up anything without a fight as Sales of Goods Act rights are notoriously difficult to get companies to actually recognise. The one thing which I dont know is if you are entitled to a full refund (which I think is not probable in my opinion given that it potentially could be 5 years down the line and the prices of technology items would be massively lower on a like for like basis)All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
