been looking at this vid on you tube, could your local council latch onto this and adapt there trucks to do this and charge tennants include it into there council tax?
there must be millons of wheelie bins on council propertys
if tennants are paying for this service from wheelie bin companies whats to stop your council doing the same using the method on the youtube vid
It really could net the local councils millions

here is another link to the system
is this why there is a lot of wheelie bin cleaning businesses up for sale do they know something?

I doubt the councils will take it up.
Looking at the video it took a minute to clean the bin. They won't take two seconds to get the bin from your gate to the truck, so they aren't going to spend an extra minute on each bin to clean it.
If a "bin round" is 500 bins, that's an extra 500 minutes per round (over 8 hours of over time to pay for).
Add to that the cost of buying new trucks, or adapting the old ones, it all adds up to a lot of money, much shorter bin rounds, meaning employing a lot more bin men, needing more trucks. If you divide a bin round into two rounds, you need two trucks.
Edit: Forgot to mention that they will probably go down the easy route to get more money from emptying bins..........Fine you if your bin isn't clean enough.0 -
How would it net them millions?
I used to do bin washing - legally. Charged £3 per wash - going rate is between £2 and £4. Whilst a lot of customers were interested, a lot weren't! How will they collect the money - through council tax or direct?
Our bin men empty the bins in about 10 seconds per bin - add that wash on and you've got 15 seconds for the inside, 10 seconds for the lid plus using the lance! That would increase the time too much.
I went around on a competitors (not really as 200 miles away in Wales) looking at buying a machine - he (his team of two lads) cleaned 15 bins per 10 minutes. Similar machine to that. He charged £2 per clean.

How would it net them millions?
If every council tennent had their bin washed through a council run scheme they would be doing every house not just the ones that wanted it done the same way as they do to empty your bin
And then again they could decide to contract the work out so as they would not have to adapt their trucks and charge it to the tennents0 -

If they contract it out, the company getting the contract would have to buy a lot of trucks and employ a lot of new staff. And the customer would end up payiing for the investment.
This would also mean a lot more trucks on the road, one to empty the bins and another to clean them. Or are you saying they;ll contract out the emptying too?
Either way, a lot more expense that the customer will have to pay for. I doubt people would stand for it. If they did what would be next, compulsory window cleaning? Compulsory grass cutting? Compulsory hedge cutting?0 -
(I doubt people would stand for it)
I don`t remember the council asking me if i wanted my bins emptied they just went ahead and done it, its payed through my council tax!
with every thing getting environmental these days it would not surprise me what the council would decide0 -
It says on that web site
Cleaning the insides of one small bin takes only few seconds
Assuming thats right its possible to do a round and then clean but will add some extra time to the round.0 -
I don't think I'd want to pay extra on my council tax for something that we do, we are both able to clean our bins.
But I'm worried that it might fall to elderly/disabled folk who can't do it and will have no control over how much it will cost them?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Personally I think community service people should be cleaning wheelie bins.
I like to see people doing useful things in the community where they have been carrying out their crimes. When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
Infact if I had the money I would pay for a two wheelie bin washing units and 2 chargehands and start a project getting the offenders out doing it - for free! When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0
