Electricity bill for 18 months

I have just been hit with an electricity bill from British Gas for the past 18 months. I assumed that as i was recieving a bill from them quarterly and as they provide both my gas and electricity that the bill was combined. I have paid every bill that has been sent to me.
I have now recieved a bill which they proudly proclaim to be "first electricity bill" this is for nearly £800 and the bill period is from August 2008. I am hoping that people on here can give me some advice on disputing this bill and or gaining time to pay.
Thank you for any help

Most utility companies will send separate bills for gas and electric. Check the other bills. If they are for gas only then this is your first electricity bill and it needs to be paid. You can ask to make the payments in instalments.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Another new user signing up to ask for advice on how to avoid paying for something they have obviously used.
Sorry this is moneysavingexpert.com, not moneyscammingexpert.com.
I suggest you contact the supplier asap and try and negotiate a repayment plan. Also enquire as to any cheaper tariffs the supplier may be able to offer you going forward, because for the last 18 months you haven't been paying for what you've been using, they will probably have billed you based on their standard tariff which is probably their most expensive!!!
Oh well, an expensive lesson learnt for the future."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Premier i will be taking your advice and ignoring you, Not looking to Scam anyone. If you read my post i was hoping for some sensible suggestions on my rights to negotiate with the company concerned. As I put in the post I informed the company when I moved in and paid every bill they sent.

Do you not read or check your bills when they come in.
Lesson to be learned there.
Another lesson, never assume anything,
The only right you have is to ask if you can pay in installments but they can say no ifthey wish.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
They should at least allow the same time the debt was accrued over for its repayment.
I don't think you have grounds to dispute it assuming your meter readings are correct.
You have checked the meter readings correspond?0 -
This is your fault, you should check your bills, I sure do.Kind Regards
