Plumber - redress/guarantees???

Hello

Could someone please advise on what to do if you spend 400 quid on boiler repairs then 2 weeks later it's knackered again? What would you advise I do? I have a horrible suspicion that I will be told various new parts are needed at further cost, I really don't see why I should pay more money when it's still not functioning. Just wondered if I had the law on my side to say that the fix I paid for should last more than a fortnight.

Any help gratefully recieved

Thank you!

It all depends on what was fixed 2 weeks ago and what has gone wrong now.

If it is the newly fitted parts that have failed, then you should not have to pay a penny. I certainly wouldn't charge a customer for any fault developing in a part I fitted within the 12 month warranty.

It may however, be a completely different fault/part and pure, embarrassing, coincidence.

If you can give full details as asked above we may be able to offer further advice.

I think you should give the plumber a car and see what he says. Not all plumbers are out to rip you off and it might be something simple. Give him a chance to have a look and at least diagnose the fault.
  • If my car breaks down, and I take it to the garage and they fix the engine and all is fine, and then two weeks later it breaks down again and this time it's the gearbox, do you think the garage is at fault?

If it's an old car, then I may consider replacing it for a new one rather than spend the same amount of money on repairs

Obviously if the car engine develops the same probelm again, then I may expect the garage to fix it for free
  • As others say it depends what has gone wrong, you need to get it looked at. As for saying I dont see why I should pay, who precisely should pay? The plumber certainly shouldnt have to foot the bill unless he has done something wrong. At the end of the day its your house not his.

You have no reason to suppose that the problem this time is the same one that was fixed recently. Certainly not without the plumber having another look at it. I sometimes was amazed by the numbers of reports we used to get when I was working. People used to say "when I did this, so and so happened" when we investigated, we often found that there was absolutely no connection between the action and the fault. It was pure co-incidence that fault appeared when it did. Get the plumber to have another look.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
