which program to cook breadmixes?

Hi there just got the excellent morphy rochards breadmaker and wonder which prog to use to make breadmixes? I used the prog it was set on 1 for ordinary white bread and it was fantastic!!! Was this right?

    Yes, the instruction booklet recommends setting 1. Glad you got good results first time, it inspires you to keep on using your breadmaker instead of leaving it in the back of the cupboard!
    My first loaf (basic recipe) was lovely, but tasted more like a French croissant! It was quite sweet and I would like to reduce the amount of sugar in the recipe but the instructions give dire warnings about "tweaking" the amounts used!
    "Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

    I just got one yesterday, do you just tip everything in, it says about the liquid touching the ingrediants, how did you do this - put it in a well in the middle??

    I've got the MR breadmaker too, I found that for the premixed packs I needed to reduce the amount of water it says to put in or they came out slightly too moist.

    I wouldn't worry about tweaking the amounts too much, despite what the cook book says you can still have good results even when you play around with the ingredients....as I found out in my very first attempt. I didn't have all the correct ingredients put too much of some things in too little of other's and it still turned out to be edible :D

    Have a play around, it's good fun ;)

    Oh one question for all you experienced breadmakers....how the heck do you slice the loaves evenly....I have tried every knife in the house and still can't manage to cut a slice that's about the same thickness at the top as the bottom LOL

    I decent bread knife -unbending...but it's not an easy task.

    I love to add stuff to my loaves, the other day i made an olive, garlic and cheese loaf out of my express white loaf recipe. The big thing is to have a look at it when it's being kneaded. If it looks too dry add some water, too wet add more flour.:D

    Don't press.

    And pay attention.

    :)

    Honest - don't press the knife down it'll squidge the loaf out of shape, so keep your touch fairly light and let the knife do the work.

    Paying attention means (especially if being lighter handed) that you'll spot yourself going astray and be able to get back on track before you're miles out.

    Alternatively, Lakeland do a bread slicer gizmo that is pretty useful. :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
    I've another question! When the loaf is cooked it always has the paddle stuck in the bottom and is hard to remove. Is this right? Can i remove it earlier on or not? ta

    If you're around you can wait until the dough part of the program is finished, lift out the dough, remove the paddle, and then put the dough back.

    Just make sure you get your timing right :)
