Alternative suggestions for a landrover
Options
Who knows a vehicle similar to a landrover 110 stationwagon?
I want a project vehicle to build a motorhome on, not as big as a transit, and not as small as a peoplecarrier. Nice and boxy inside.
Preferably diesel, and european based rather than japanese or american. Mainstream japanese would be ok though.
Doesn't need to be 4wd, age isn't really important, new or old.
Any suggestions at all.

Main issue is most more modern type of 4x4 have a monocoque chassis rather than a ladder chassis like a landie so you'll struggle to mount a body on the back.0
-
I want to keep the body and convert the inside, should have said build a motorhome "in" not "on".0
-
The mazda bongo's are popular for conversions.
Failing that something like a transit or transporter van perhaps - lots of conversions available for both of these.0 -
Depends how old you want to go (suggestions might be unsutiable)
G Wagen
Old Land Cruiser
or you could do something with a pickup/
My best thought though is to go and look on South African websites (4x4 hire) if it works these guys will have tried it. You might find a forum or two as well.

I'd go for a Bongo, personally, they get imported at about 10 years old from Japan, they are all RHD, mostly automatic transmission. You can get them ready converted or convert them yourself.
The Ford Freda is the same vehicle, just with a different logo.
There are Bongo forums, which can give you great ideas also sources for the vehicles. I was considering one myself a few years back, but I went for a VW T25 instead, for more room.

OP you asking this question in the HonestJohn column of the Daily Telegraph today.
According to honest john basically the only ones with seperate chasis are:-
Land Rover
Land Cruiser
or any Japanese pick up0 -
Defender 130 ex military ambulance?0

130 looks a good choice, but I haven't seen many about.
Be nice to have PAS, air con etc as well.0
