Rental house also for sale

    There's plenty of examples in here where agents say that yet the property goes for sale again. If you want to settle then choose a landlord who knows he wants to be a landlord, not one who is hedging his bets between renting and selling. Frankly the agent will say anything to get you to sign. Oh and don't forget to check for consent to let, especially as this doesn't sound like a pro landlord.

    In that case, if it were me I would say you want a 12 month term. If they try to wriggle out of it, they clearly are not thinking long term. I would also just tell them you can't wait much longer and either fib about looking at other properties, or even better keep looking as you may find something better.

    Anyway, hope it works out for you....

  • if they havent already drawn up the tenancy agreement then yes you can ask for a 12 month tenancy..if the LA agent go round the houses and really only want you to take out a 6 month tenancy..then Id be concerned Im afraid that the house is going to go back on the market.
    Im always very wary of rental properties that are for sale..naturally the LA will tell you its going to come off the market..but frankly once youve signed and moved in..there is nothing to stop the LL "changing his mind" and leaving it on the market and if you are looking for somewhere to settle you really dont want that uncertainty.
    In our previous rental property we were assured that our landlord was out of the country for 3-5 years..yet he turned up on our doorstep wanting us out after just 7 months.
