I'd avoid Maxtor and go Seagate, its only a few pounds more at normal prices.
(£43 instead of £40 at ebuyer)
I will admit that the offer shown (which appears to have now sold out) was a very good price and would have been tempting0 -
I've been using Maxtor for a long time now, all 4 of my drives are Maxtor and they are very good, mind you these days, all hard drives are good. There is always a few that does break down regardless of manufacturer.0

Seagate have already taken over Maxtor!
Am presently investigating the suitability of the DiamondMax +10 IDE HDD range for the purposes of a CCTV DVR on motion detection. As I'm in the security business, I'm interested to see if this is a reliable cheap alternative to much more expensive HDD's. I've emailed Maxtor and tekheads to see what they recommend. If anyone is interested, I'll post their replies...I'm NOT political so DON'T correct me!0 -

Got my 2 new 160Gb Maxtor SATA Hard drives yesterday morning, very quick service. I ordered 3 by mistake and their customer service responded quickly in rectifying the order. You DO need to log in and create an account first before buying anything though.
Hopefully they will work fine and all will be happy.

It'll still be a good while until all of the Maxtor made products are off the market.
Ironically I have a Maxtor hard drive in this system, only reason its there is because a mate sold it to me for £15, 160GB0 -
BARGAIN! :j
Tekheads got back saying no probs with +10's (in fact, they use 'em themselves in the wharehouse).
Maxtor got back saying that the DiamondMax 17 is better suited so I've ordered one from techfever (via quidco) as they were around the same sort of price.
Wish I could get 'em for £15 though!I'm NOT political so DON'T correct me!0 -

Thanks for that. eBay prices much of a muchness but what I find is the real killer is the shipping charges. It easily adds 10-15% onto the price, especially as the hard drive I ordered was 0.53kg and the threshold was 0.5kg - what a difference 30g makes (ie about £6.50 compared to approx £2.50ish)!
Ouch!I'm NOT political so DON'T correct me!0
