Natwest Step Account gone overdrawn.

We opened a Step account with the Natwest in October so am relatively new to the workings of this account but its taken us overdrawn when i thought it doesn't allow it. My husbands wages were lower than we calculated for which meant we wouldn't have enough for all our DD due out on Monday I was prepared for a charge which they told us was £5. I also thought as we're already getting a charge anyway i might aswell use some of the money in the account to go food shopping. When I checked the account this morning they've took all the DD's and put us overdrawn by £90. Now I'm really worried as I don't get paid until wednesday and it'll only just about take us out of the overdraft. I've tried looking on the Natwest website but can't understand where i'm supposed to be looking for the expected charges we're going to receive for being overdrawn unauthorised and the interest for it.

Natwest take all DD's on a Saturday if they fall on the following Monday. I am not sure of the charge rates so I would call them this morning to enquire. You may find that although the DD's are showing as placing you overdrawn, that the bank will reverse these on Monday and then notify you of the 'bounced DD charges'.

I think they have to give you advance notice of the charges by letter to give you time to credit your account to cover them.
  • I was hoping that'd happen but just wanted to make sure if someone had any first hand experience to reassure me. Its just very scary seeing that -£90 for a whole weekend.

DD's from Monday show on Sat if you don't pay in they will bounce on Monday and your account will be back to original position overnight on Monday and charges will be £5 per bounced d/d

    Theres 2 options.

Pay in money to cover the DDs by 14.30 on Monday OR cancel the direct debits and ask for the payments to recalled, either way you wont be charged.

Then you account will be put in the orginal position when the system updates on monday morning as Willo65 as already stated.
