DVD Burning Problem

Options
hi, recently i've tried burning several dvds from my laptop and all have been out of sync. I've tried loads of stuff:

- tried different software. Nero and Power Producer
- my laptops internal dvd writer (which has been fine until this) and a brand new exteral dvd writer.
- i transferred a film using a usb pen onto my pc and that was also out of sync
- i tried videos i had burnt before (to check it jsut wasnt the new videos) and those were also out of sync
- ive tried a DVD-R, another companies DVD-R, a DVD-RW, another DVD-RW, 2 CD's (burnt as VCD's) and all at varying speeds, including a dvd and vcd at 1x speed.
- i've tried watching the DVD's on my PC and on 2 DVD players.

any thoughts? i can't think of any reason for this, i havent upgraded any software, ive run virus and anti spyware scans. The only thing that has changed is the reason i'm burning vids to dvd, is that my laptops headphone jack is broken and my laptops internal speakers havent come back on because they think the headphone jack is in use.

all suggestions appreciated and will be followed by a thanks :D

EDIT: sometimes the videos have been out of sync to start, and others have progressively got worse.

    HTH
It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

    Hi
Are they out of sync when you watch them on your lappy? How much mem is on your lappy.
How are you copying them, on the fly, or are you saving them on your hd, and then burning?
It sounds like a buffer underrun, have you tried closing down all running programs and then burning.
Have a look in Nero, Options, Ultrabuffer and set to auto if its not already.

    Hope this helps

out of sync when i watch them from disc... i cant watch them on my laptop because the headphone jack is broken which hs turned the speakers off, so i burnt a video which i know was fine before and that was out of sync too.

saved on hd, then burnt to dvd.

ultrabuffer was set to auto already.

i'll try shutting everything down. thx for your help

We talking about audio out of sync with picture?

If you are doing video conversion (converting non-dvd video into dvd) then this is an inherrant side effect of the process, and has nothing to do with dvd burning per se.

Video conversion is tricky business, and not for the faint hearted. Syncing issues in particular tend to be hair wrenching.

For that reason I tend to avoid it. If you want to watch e.g. Divx on a tv, better to get a dvd player capable of playing divx.

garcia, thats all very well but i've never had any of this problem before when burning dvds, and ive tried with videos i've burnt before.

t4i yes, audio out of sync with video. audio is always ahead of the video in my case :(

something i've jsut noticed... when i go to burn a VCD using Nero, it says "hardware acceleration is deactivated. some capture devices may not work properly. you can activate hardware acceleration using the directx diagnostics tool"

this started coming up after i reinstalled windows about a month ago, but i'm sure ive burnt dvds since then which have been fine. could this be the cause of the problem? i looked on dxdiag but i cant see anything about hardware acceleration?

I'm guessing you have a original region 2 DVD?

    If so:-

Open the DVD with DVD-Shrink and re-author it so its just the main movie you are left with. Backit up to HDD in Video_TS/Audio_TS format.

    Open Nero and new project:-

Create new DVD-Video project and drap your re-authored Video_TS files across. Burn at the lowest speed available.

Do you still get the audio sync problem? If you have already tried this method then what results did it give you?

no, im not trying to copy a dvd, im trying to burn a video clip to dvd.

before i go through your suggestion t4i, is it worth it since i'm not trying to backup, but rather trying to create, a dvd?

whats weird is that i just tried 2 VCD's, the first was a video clip about 30 mins long which i've burnt before and had no trouble, and this time the same, it worked fine. when i tried the new video clip im trying to burn (the one thats out of sync all the time) it was still out of sync. Yet i used the same settings (tried disabling buffer underrun protection).... i'm going to try another video clip incase the one im trying is genuinely out of sync.

    any other ideas are appreciated.

yeh, prolly not worth doing what I suggested. I can't help you any further as I really don;t know what could be wrong.

When you say you are trying to make a DVD or VCD what format are the files in to start with? The original files play ok on the comfluter?

they play fine on the laptop, but as i said i have no way of checking the sound.

All it says is that they are 'video clips' but i'm sure some of the files which windows is labelling video clips are AVI's. Even on properties it just says video clip.

i tried burning a vcd with another video file which previously was out of sync, this time at lowest speed (16x) and with buffer underrun protection disabled, and this time it was much better, it didnt go out of sync until near the end of the video, and even then it was tolerable. Previously the gap was around 2 minutes, and the maximum this time was only a second or so.
