Owe money to friend's boyfriend - help!

I'm in a bit of a sticky situation and I could use some advice. My friend's boyfriend has been using one of my bank accounts for his (legal) online gambling. Initially this seemed like a good idea to me - he made hundreds on the account every month and paid me a fraction of it. But then I got into debt and I was unable to pay my loan payment, from the same bank, one month. The bank took money from the bank account he was using (because it's linked to my loan account) and they wouldn't let me say no. They took 1036 GBP, to cover my loan payment and my overdraft and now I have to pay him back.
I am self-employed and if I pay him all this money in one month, I won't be able to cover my own costs. I have paid him 736 but he has just sent me a nasty message demanding the rest immediately. I am really cross; he makes thousands every month online gambling and recently made a 1000 pound donation to charity. He doesn't need the money and I desperately do. I feel bullied. But I am terrified that if I don't pay him back immediately he will take action against me and/or I will lose my friend, who he's having a baby with.
What do I do? My credit rating is bad and I can't get an overdraft or a loan to pay him back with. Help.

MMmm if he had need of your bank account with your dodgy credit rating what does that say about him? how do you know it is all legal and above board? there is sometihng iffy here.0

The bank is allowed to offset your money to pay off your debts. Any money in your account is considered yours, so they can do this and there is nothing you can do unless you can prove the money is sourced from benefits.
Your friend should get his own bank account, as it is dodgy to be using yours, if he starts moving money in and out alot money laundering could be a potential issue.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

He probably already has a bank account and is using your bank account so that he can pretend to be you while gambling.
Many online sites have limits on multiple accounts and if he goes belly up, you'll be liable for his debts.0 -
This sounds very fishy, I would pay him what you can afford and tell he he can't use the account any more. For your own security I would look to close the account as soon as possible so he can't use it. I would also find out which gambling sites he has been using (presumably under your name) and close the accounts. His reaction should be a warning, he sounds rather nasty.Ebay challenge 2010 - £525

Sorry to say.
You are a fool and he sounds dodgy. If he (in your bank account) is making thousands are you going to pay his tax bill???. I understand gambling profits are not taxable but you will not be able to prove they are gambling profits. It will look like just a black money business.
How do you know it is gambling profits? Just because he says so!!!There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
This sounds so stressful for youit must be really difficult with the friend part of it as well but i'm not sure you need to be mixed up with people like this - if you dont have it you can't pay it so he has the choice of waiting for a short amount of time and you can pay it off or chasing you for the debt and preventing you from having a relationship with your friend! how will he chase you for the debt? will you be in any physical danger? I don't see him going down an official route somehow and I agree also that you should cancel the account as soon as possible
good luck keep your chin up xx0 -

I'm guessing he is playing online poker or something similar.... all gambling sites allow one account per customer, and often times only 1 account per address. I would guess he is using your banking details so that he can have more than one account and gain some kind of advantage... fine until he gets caught I suppose.
It is unlikely that you would end up with his debts, generally these poker/gaming/gambling sites do not allow people to go overdrawn.....
I think it goes without saying that you give him his money back as soon as you can and then remove his access to your banking acount.0 -
Bottom line is, you had a payment to make and couldn't. You knew his money was in there and now you're upset that he wants his money back because you won't have enough for the rest of the month.
How do you really know if what he is doing is legal? If he is doing something illegal then all they have to come back to is your bank account that leads to you. On a side note, it would be very easy to log into a gambling site and show you this is the site, even play it in front of you, however, it could just be a cover.
Best advice is to get him out of your account and do an SOA to see where your money is going. You may end up losing your friend anyway if he is that angry with you.0
