Lost favourites in Explorer

Help, I have somehow deleted my Internet Favourites in MS Explorer. Now when I try to add, nothing happens.

I have tried de-instaling & reinstalling to no avail.

Can anyone help?

Have you installed something recently? What was it? Can you uninstall it, as it maybe affecting the way the Favourites folder works. Otherwise, you can try wading through these links:

Or there is: IE\Tools\Internet Options\Advanced "Enable Personalized favourites Menu" Uncheck it.

Or there is: Login as Admin, and type Start/Run dialog:
regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 / i shdocvw.dll - press 'enter' after each one.

and if that still doesn't work, then install either Opera Browser https://www.opera.com or Firefox https://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ when they ask do you want to import your favourites, say yes. Then get on with your life

Could your Favorites folder be at a different location due to accidental move by mouse or similar? Maybe worth a search for the folder on the hard disk in case it is mis-placed rather than deleted.

Browse to this: C:\Documents and Settings\your user name

If they are not there then just right click space and create a new folder and name it Favorites (note the American way of spelling).

Might have got moved or renamed.

If it has been moved or renamed, when you click on favorites on the IE explorer panel down the left side you will get a long blank grey patch.

I have a favorites folder you can have a copy of my favourites folder, pm me your email address and I will send it to you zipped and you can unzip it and send it to the C:\Documents and Settings\your user name and do whatever you like with it.


You can always check registry by hitting start and typing in regedit.

Browse to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellFolders

It's on right hand side about 6 rungs down, you will see if it's in the right place.

C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Favorites
