Confusion over duvet

hello
i am looking at purchasing a couple of king size duvets but am so confused with whats on offer. I purchased a cheap duvet from asda 3 years ago, took it to the laundrette to wash, and managed to rip a hole in it whilst it was wet. Its got a mesh kind of fabric on it, i'm after something that will last so should i be looking at the ones with polyester/cotton covers? and what do they mean when they say hollowfibre?
My mum purchased her duvets 20 years ago and they are still going strong, so i've clearly gone wrong somewhere!
many thanks

In general, cheap is unlikely to last. Cheap often means lower-grade material, which is less hardwearing and poor finishing, when the seams can come apart.
Hollowfibre is the filling inside the duvet. Other fillings include duck or goose feather and/or down. Google Siberian Goose Down 100% duvet and you'll see some eye-watering prices for what is supposed to be the best duvet you can buy!
You need to look at the construction of the duvet too. Ideally, you want one with "pockets" - rows of stitching across and down the duvet - to stop the filling collecting in one end.
However ... what is your budget? I buy a lot of bedding from Dawsons as they sell good quality at discount prices. You might want to have a look on there to see what's within your budget. No connection with that site/store - just a satisfied customer.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac
