Capital 1 cancelling PPI

Hi All,

I have looked in this area and other parts of the forum to try and answer my query but i can't seem to find a close answer.

My mother is in a bad financial place, she has been advised to take an IVA but is far too proud (stupidly!). She has a very secure job working for a ADHD boys school and is not going to lose her job / get made redundant. She has called Capital 1 3 times now to cancel her PPI as she does not want to pay this anymore as it is around £13 a month and they still HAVE NOT cancelled it for her, they said it would be 1 month from the date she requested but it is still in place. On the third call she took the time, date and tried to spell the name of the person she spoke to about this so I am going to call them tomorrow/Monday for her and do this myself (as she is too soft!) All calls, they quote, are recorded for traning and security purposes etc;)

My question is to you, as she has tried to cancel it 3 times now and they said they would do so but have not, when i call am i entitled to request they reimburse the payments they have taken for the PPI since these requests? And thereupon the interest that would have been applied to the balance?

There would be no harm in asking would there?

Thank you:):)

  • I'd say there is no harm in asking at all at the end of the day its your money and why should your mother pay for a service she doesn't want. I don't understand why they couldn't cancel it straight away as any time I cancelled mine with various things they done it straight away even though trying to talk me into keeping it....

Good luck with your call hope you get what u want, keep at them :) Capital one can be a pain.

  • Thanks Twinkle, i will post the outcome of my phone call.

When i cancelled the PPI on my Halifax CC they said that they required 30 days notice to cancel as the request for payment had already been sent accross to the PPI company - i think it was a con to get 1 more payment out of me but at lease they cancelled it for me! :j

Unless they have a letter of authority from your mother saying you can discuss matters on her behalf they wont speak with you as it is breaking data protection...
