Gifted payments are fee-free, and can't be reclaimed using chargebacks etc (which is why you shouldn't use them to buy stuff off-ebay, as you've no comeback if the item doesn't arrive).

You can only gift fee free if the money is already in paypal, you can't gift a payment from a card.

You can gift though if you have a bank account linked and a DD set up even if there is no money in the paypal account. I have done this a couple of times and its just like a normal PP direct debit transaction this way

It wouldn't let me the other day, it told me I had to allocate fees either to me or to the recipient as I didn't have sufficient in my paypal account.

My paypal account runs differently to every one elses for some reason, sometimes it is good (my default payment is a credit card) but sometimes it is strange as it does odd things.

Strange maybe my PP account is the weird one. It wouldn't let us make a £10 payment to a US seller via Bank funding the other week. But the following day allowed me to spend £100 with a canadian one and then gift some money to my nephew, Oh well paypal is a law unto itself

I know what you mean. I just wondered if mine was so old that I am working on different rules, for instance when people said they had the option to pay 25p (or whatever) for faster withdrawals to their bank account I have never had that?

The credit card thing though is the odd one, I have a bank account and DD registered and as we all know they automatically take the bank option for payment first, except on mine. I just leave well alone but never leave any real money in there at all as I don't quite trust them.
