Water Pressure Question

Last few mornings when Ive turned on the cold water tap for the first time the prssure of watr coming out of the tap is horrendous...Its so strong it knocks the glass Imtrying to fill out of my hand....Also the other morning when I flushed the loo the noise from the pipes knocking was so loud....any ideas what might cause this and any solutions...

Main pressure could have increased, turn your main control tap off a tad to reduce pressure.

This is a strange thing the general public seem to have got into their heads somewhere

Turning down the stop tap will reduce flow not pressure, the pressure will still the same.

The only way to reduce the pressure would be to fit a pressure reducing valve.

Water boards tend to increase pressure at peak times and ease it of during low usage times in an effort to reduce leakages, if your pressure has increased significantly there may have been changes made to the mains water system outside. Throttling down your stopcock will reduce the flow rate at your tap, you don't want to turn it down to much though as this will also reduce the flow rate into your water tank, turning the tap on slowly does the same job.
