Electricty Bill
Options
Hoping people can help. I have just moved from Southern Electric to British Gas and just recieved in a bill of £812.01 Inc VAT for electric between 4 November to 06 February, which is 7045 units at 11.38p each.
I have rang Southern electric and they have advised that there seems to be a nano leak(whatever that means) and my usage prior to this was 2000 units for 6 months. They also asked me to take another reading which is now 59367 from 6 feb till the 26 feb which is an increase of approx 3300 units in a 20 day period.
They advised me to contact my new provider and see if they can send someone out as the metre seems to be running very fast.
I called them and they seem to think it is a problem with the previous company and there readings, they have asked me to give a reading now and another one in 10 days.
We currently have dual fuel and have paid approx £55 per month previously and this has covered the bill and our usage has not changed at all.
Anyone any idea's on what could cause this or what the outcome might be as it the current rate our bill is going to be about £300 per month for a 2 bedroom terraced house which is ridiculous.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Cheers,
Michael

Is there a drug factory next door using your electric?:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I have asked about someone tapping into our electricity but they say someone would need to be running football flood lights to clock up usage like that?0

Found out after sending in photo that the meter reader that come to the house had read it wrong and therefore was 10,000 units out. Just recieved a cheque for £173 overpayment. Tisk tisk Mr Meter reader guy.0

10,000 units out and they only rebated £173?
10,000 units would create an overcharge of between about £750 and £1300 depending on the unit price of your tariff.
Presumably you have an old fashioned meter with numerous dials.Reading a dial meter
If the pointer falls between two numbers, always read the lower number – in Fig A you would write down the number 4.
If the pointer is directly over a number always record it – in Fig B you would write down the number 5.
If the pointer on a dial falls between 9 and 0, reduce the reading already taken for the dial on the left by one – for example, if your original recorded 5, reduce this to 4.
Following these instructions, the correct meter reading for the dial in the diagram will be 44928.
Edit: It appears your usage was only originally 7045 units, so did you mean 1,000 units out?
At 11.38p per kWh, that would create an overcharge of just £113.80
Did they give you a £60 goodwill gesture too? Very nice of them if they have"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
