What time did you complete.

Hi.

Well at last after 6mths the big day is almost upon us. I know they always say that you should get the call to confirm completion about lunchtime , but I was just wondering what is the earliest and latest that people have had the call ?
Does the length of the chain effect the time it all goes through ??

Cant wait till Friday !!!!

I have recently completed on a property. I was telephoned by the solicitor at 10:30 am to confirm that I had completed.

I telephoned the estate agent at 12:00 ish to check that the keys would be available for collection, and picked them up at 2pm.

Bringing back bad memories....... was expecting completion about 12. 2pm phone call from surveyor - mortgage co wouldn't release funds as had lost my mortgage dd I had faxed the day before and they said they had received .
Luckily I had original with me.... but was 30 miles from home & solicitors.....

Pulled up at a row of shops with an estate agents - went in and pleaded and they took pity on me....... completed about 4pm......

Got to house and they hadn't even cleaned it, though they'd had all day. And opened kitchen door - dog was still in there!!!!!!!

Like I said, am sure thsi won't happen to you......
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Completed end of June.

Buyers turned up 10.30am to move in...we told them to politely bog off. They kept coming round every half hour to see if they could move in...so please don't do that OP as it's a pain in the backside...especially when the buyers had come round 2 days before to finalise moving day arrangements and we said that we wouldn;t be out of our house until at least 1pm.

We completed about 12.30 on our sale and dropped keys off to agent a little after that. Our purchase completed at 4.59pm...flipping local solicitors.

I was told it's a good idea to get the solicitors to draw down the mortgage monies the day before and that way things should be all transferred by lunch time the next day.No one wants to be hanging around til 2 or 4pm to start unloading vans.

good post lilyann1 best idea sols get the money the day before and yes the chain moves cash wise from the bottom up which usually means a FTBYR at the bottom with nothing to move, they get the call to say they have completed and expect to move in straight away in truth the next up the chain could take 15 mins to get their call the longer the chain the more time it takes. The moving starts at the top of the chain .unless the Top of the chain moves out the next person cant move in so sometimes it gets a bit hairy and tempers rise a little.
Try to move on any day bar Friday as the removals will be cheaper, the sols not under so much pressure and should be better all around.
Sometimes removal men have to hang around whilst the vendors move out and you end up paying waiting time.Try to get the peoples mobile phone number as the main line usually goes off at 12.you can then keep in touch to see how they are progressing with their completion.
    Good luck with your move.

Day definitely makes a difference - I completed on a Monday and the solicitor loved me. :)

It was much simpler as I was FTB, there was no onward chain, and he'd already moved out and I wasn't moving in that day. But got a phone call at about 10am to say we'd completed, popped to the agent at lunchtime and picked up the keys. I had been planning to take the day off work but mum said there's no point, if you're not moving on the day, completion day is such an anti-climax lol.

As others have said, make sure all solicitors have finances in place.

Most of all on the day, if everyone in the chain is moving, do your best to stay calm - it's all out of your hands. I take the point earlier about buyers turning up too early to try and move in, but similarly sellers can cause problems - I knew someone who arrived early afternoon and was sat outside with his removal van till about 7 - the seller had barely started packing before the day.

I got a message from our solicitors at 10.30am saying we'd completed. Estate Agents then said that vendors would be handing in keys mid afternoon after they'd finished moving their stuff out. Got to about 4pm and I'd still not heard anything so rang back and it turns out they were 'running late' as were moving all their stuff themselves in a transit van and having to make repeated trips!
Was supposed to be picking up the keys from the EA but they were still moving out at 5pm when the office closed so I had to go round to the house and pick the keys up there!
