Citibank Question.

I noticed at the beginning of the Basic Bank Account thread Citibank was mentioned a few times but i didn't think they did a basic account.
Can anyone tell me how they work? I have looked at the terms for all of the current accounts they offer but even the most basic access one has a minimum income requirement of £20,000.
Do they just not offer a basic banking service for anyone on a lower income than £20,000?

They do not enforce the £20k income level. A lot of people got a Citibank account a year or two back as they lowered their criteria. It has since been raised so you have to have a good rating to get one of their account.
They do not offer a basic bank account only one that is, in their words, "more" basic.0 -

Bit old i know but i applied for the Access account with Citibank after we had this discussion & got a letter today telling me my application had been approved and i just needed to sign and return the declaration, so it looks like they did not enforce the £20,000 income level afterall.0 -
That letter means nothing I am afraid. They do not perform the checks until you send that letter back. I applied and got that letter only to be declined.Bit old i know but i applied for the Access account with Citibank after we had this discussion & got a letter today telling me my application had been approved and i just needed to sign and return the declaration, so it looks like they did not enforce the £20,000 income level afterall.0 -
I was declined when I first applied to them (about a year ago). Apparently there was a single black mark on my credit record: a direct debit had been taken from a non-existent account and this showed up as a bad debt. Resolving the matter and getting the bank to contact the CRA to remove the black mark took two full days! Anyway, I then appealed and at that point they gave me an account! I did not ask for any credit facilities because I didn't need them. So yes, Citibank are decidedly choosy.0
