Is my electric bill excessive?
Options
Hi all,
I was wondering if someone can help please, we got our electricity bill yesterday and it for £268.95 (from 29th Nov to 22 Feb)! We switched from EON to EDF (online saver v3)! My housemate and I live in a 2 bed flat and it is one of the modern ones so we do not have gas, it is electric onlyf flat!! We also have an economy 7 meter!! The bill just seems way too much!!
Thanks
Forgot to mention that neither of us is at home during the day and sometimes weekends as well!

Given the rescent weather it's probably correct. Have you had the heating on a lot? Pretty much covers the 4 coldest months of the year and for an all electric household it sounds reasonable to me, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along and work out your usage.
Is the bill based on an estimate or an actual reading?0 -
My gas was £308 from 23rd November, so it doesn't seem too bad.0

Nope, it seems cheap (or entirely reasonable, rather.) It is winter, you know.0

Thanks for the reply guys! :T
It is based on actual readings.
The reason why I thought it might be excessive is because my brother pays an average of £75 pm (on gas and electric) and he has a 4 bed detached in london (which I am led to believe has the most expenses gas/electric tariffs) whilst I am paying £90 odd pm living in a 2 bed flat in the midlands!£365 in 365 days challenge: £730 / £1500 -

I think it is quite a lot, I am in a one bed, electric only, flat in London and I have had my heating on loads and have been at home during the day in the week quite a bit so clocking up more kettle and cooker usage than usual and my bill for a similar time period is going to be about £120-130. I also have Econ7 and I am on British Gas normal tariff, I don't pay by direct debit.£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)

How many kwh? That is very low for someone having 'heating on loads' in winter months!0 -

Try keeping a record of your use on http://www.imeasure.org.uk then you get no nasty surprises and you can compare your use to others.
Doesn't sound to out of the way to me btw, also in all electric house.
Have you checked lately on the switching sites that you are on the best tariff for your area? When is your online saver 3 up? I notice they have brought out v6 now to start in March.0 -

I used uswitch to move from eon to edf, online saver 3 was the best tariff at the time. there is no point moving now because i still have another 9 months left but more importantly, i am moving away from this place in a couple of months£365 in 365 days challenge: £730 / £1500
