Hi Everyone!
PLEASE help me!!! I am with eon, live in a 4 bedroomed dorma semi detached bungalow which has been insullated and cavity walled and we have had a new glow worm ultracom CXi boiler fitted and our bills have not reduced at all!!! We have 7 radiators.
Just done my gas bill and its worked out at £5.84 exl VAT daily, it this correct or am I doing something wrong?
I have asked lots of advice about the new boiler and keep getting different answers of different plumbers for the cheapest way to run it. Does anyone have the same boiler, is it cheaper to have it on all the time or set it to certain times each day? What temp should it be at for the cheapest possible option. For 28 days last month my gas bill alone was £151.00 and electric £75.00 and I am a pensioner and really can not afford this at all.
My friends with similar siz houses bills are much less so I must be doing something wrong but done't know what!
Please help!!
EDIT
I have checked my meter reading each week then used Smart meter ( which last month was bang on accurate with the Eon bill!)...It says I am using 147.2 kwh each day.

What price per kWh(unit) are you using for your calculations?
Don't forget the majority of tariffs have 2 tier levels. Tier 1(or primary) kWh is much higher but only used for relatively few kWh. The Tier 2(or secondary) price is more realistic.0 -

OFF is the cheapest possible option.
Do you not get the Winter fuel payments from the Government to help pay the heating bills? If not then perhaps you could check if you are entitled to them?0 -

What do you mean by 'Smart Meter'. You checked your meter and then your smart meter.
147.2kWh gas or electricity. What price per kWh are you using?0 -

Set the water temperature as low as you can stand it for showering, don't preheat your water (ever).
Set the central heating to about 50ish (manufacturer's 'ECO' setting -see manual)
Have the central heating timed on for as short a period as you can stand it.
Insulate your house, short term make sure draught's are excluded, internal/external doors and windows are closed where possible.
Regularly check your gas meter to monitor/compare results

hi poorbird
have you got your rad thermostats set correctly?
setting them at 3 in the living rooms and 2 elsewhere should be enough and you could turn them off in unused rooms.
have a dial room thermostat?
set this at 19-20C,hot water 50C
One more thing it is cheaper to run a gas fire on quite low in the day than ch0 -
I've no idea why changing the boiler would change the cost of heating a property. Why would it be any cheaper?
How many radiators do you use? One or two? Or all seven? And setting 3 and 2 is far too high - 3 in one room and * in the others is more than enough (and 0 is some of them, if available).
£151 is perfectly reasonable if you are heating more than one room.
And what is costing £75 in electricity? - that's where I would concentrate my investigations. That is a ridiculous amount.
So with £250 winter fuel payment - say over four months - that brings your winter heating (gas) bill down to less than £100. As you say 'we' your pension credit must guarantee you nearly £800 per month. So you should have more than £600 left to live on. Not sure how you 'can't afford' it. It will be cheaper in summer. This summer put savings aside for winter.0 -

unsure what this guy was trying to say before he got cut off but it is 100% certain that its cheaper to run your gas boiler on a timer and switch it off than leave it on all day.
Basic physics/thermodynamics dictates this0
