Are tuition fees covered by Supply of Goods and Services act 1982?

Hi all - first post,
My girlfriend has just started a HND at a college that's had its license suspended. The colleges policy on tuition fees is that they are not refundable.
Although the college is still operating and hosting classes, pending an appeal, can the Sale of Goods and Services Act 1982 apply if she should seek a refund on the basis that it's currently not a legitimate college, and is not what she paid for?
Any advice is greatly welcomed..

Not sure about your question but SOGA (sale of goods act 1979) is not the same as the supply of goods and services act 1982. It is the latter that will apply if you have a case. I would go to consumer direct for more advice. CAB and NUS may be able to help tooBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Thanks for quick reply 4743hudsonj, I've just edited the title with the correct act.
She's an international student from Brazil, and is really worried at the moment, and is not sure if she should start looking at alternative institutions to complete here studies.
Her college has said that she has nothing to worry about, but are not giving any details as to why their license has been removed.
I am tempted to send in a foi request to the UK Borders Agency for the exact reasons for the suspension of their license, as their call centre are unable to comment on the individual colleges case. But not sure if this is the correct channel to obtain information at this stage.0 -
Your girlfriend might have more of a problem than you realise.
If a colleges licence is suspended then the overseas student permission to stay is restricted to 60 days unless they have less than 6 months remaining.
She might like to seek advice from CAB or a qualified immigration adviser"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
