Looking for a good laptop for around £600
Hoping for 4Gb RAM (DDR2)
250 GB HD
Screen - not bothered
Graphics 512Mb+
OS - Windows 7
Processor - 2 X 2.1 ghz +
Not so worried about additionals, although I would like a laptop not prone for overheating. And with a 1yr manufacturors guarantee.
Anyone know of such a laptop?

Or will sacrifice a few things for a solid state HD as I hear this greatly improves performance0

just remember graphics cards are not always better because of the ram on board a lot more is down to the chipset, the only reason you need more ram on a graphics card is to allow bigger screens, and on a laptop you are limited to the one attached!
check out this website for the laptop GPU charts
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9600M-GT.9449.0.html
another suggestion on top of the argos one above would be this
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/182585
got a slightly worse graphics card (once again check the chart posted above and you will see it isnt a big difference) but gains bigger hard drive and the newer core i5 CPU
quick edit, this is the details of the 5470 on the ebuyer one http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-5470.23698.0.html
just noticed that one of the other fetures might make you think about the graphics card a bit differently, the 9600GT takes 23 watts of power compared to the 5470 which is only 13-15 watts therefore the 5470 will increase battery life a little and also reduce heat output (could also find increased performance with drivers as it is still a new card so will not have as mature drivers as the 9600GT)Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -

Cheers guys!
All helpful, really like the acer one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/182585
Looks like just what I want. However I have heard bad things about Acer laptops in general wrt overheating and overclocking their components too much. Are these concerns founded?0 -
I have had a few Acer laptops and have had no problems. Build quality isn't fantastic but the for the money they are great value for what you get.
By the way, that laptop you linked to looks a good spec for the money.
Good luck with whatever you decide.0
