broken sofa

please help me!
i purchased 2 sofas on credit just over 2 years ago and still have just under 2 years still to pay. 1 sofa has just broken as the supporting bar that runs under it has cracked in the middle. you can no longer use the sofa but cant exactly see how it has cracked as the fabric would need to be ripped apart to view it. i purchased insurance with it at the time but it doesnt cover it (even though we werent offered an insurance policy that did but1is apparently available). shop and customer services arent interested and said i have no rights unless its a manufacturing fault but surely 2 years is not a 'reasonable time' for a sofa to last (no kids!). do i have rights under the consumer rights/sale of goods act? id rather know before paying my solicitor! citizens advice and trading standards both disagreeing on advice.
sofa was only £300 but total bill came to almost£1000.
thanks in advance!

A sofa, even a £300 one, should last longer than 2 years. However, it would be up to you to prove that the fault was an inherent manufacturing one and not down to abnormal wear & tear or accidental damage etc.0
