BT Contract

I am with BT for TV, phone and BB, but I've been nothing but disappointed with their service. I only went with them because we moved house, and the BB is very limited where we moved to (otherwise I'd have stuck with O2).

I was on the phone with them recently, and it turns out their contracts renew for 12 months automatically every 12 months. So effectively I'm tied into contract with them until Jan next year.

I currently pay the cheapest line rental, and get evenings and weekends for free. But I pay £25/month for the BB (which I'm capped on in peak hours every day), and half price for the silver TV package for the next 9 months (only after complaining about their service).

I noticed recently that the peak hours are changing (from 6 to 7), and also call costs are increasing.

Because they are changing the contract, does that mean I can get out of it? If so, would this mean I could also get out of my BB and TV?

And if I can, how do I go about it? And do I have to cancel right away, or can I get out of my contract, and cancel at a later date?

Any help would be really appreciated!

The free version of the Evening & Weekend calls plan is a 'renewable' 12 month contract.

BT write to you about a month before each 12 months is up and, if you don't make contact with them, the contract renews on the anniversary date. It sounds like you forgot to take that action.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Well, they didn't write to me, but not an issue.

Really the question is whether I can get out of the contract because they're changing the terms?
  • Yes, you can cancel without penalty. There's a huge thread on here about it already - couple of pages back now probably.
  • Thanks, I've now read the whole 15 pages, and nobody has answered the question if you also have vision and broadband.

I can see you can get out of your contract for the phone, but will this remove your contract for TV and BB?

Only if it affects your BB usage and TV viewing between 18:00 and 19:00.

In any case you could only get out of the contact if you cancelled within the stated time span which has now expired.

Well obviously it doesn't, but it does affect me in monetary terms, so...?

I have yet to receive an email or letter from then, so surely the time-span has not expired?

    . . . . . you'll be able to draw the obvious conclusion.
